This is a deal.

Awww! Thank you! They are real sweeties! Can't imagine not having them since they are gorgeous to look at and easy to love on.
Here is a photo from yesterday of a chick from Rascal's pen. I nice blue Mottled, maybe from the hen in my avatar or the other blue Mottled hen in the pen.

Too cute! I cant' wait till my eggs hatch. Going to do my first candling tonight to see how many eggs have the lovely blood ring going *giggle* *crossing fingers*

Coincidentally my copper maran has gone broody. I'm almost tempted to put a few of the eggs under her and let her hatch them out, but i dunno.......she seems content sitting on the golf balls in the nest box.

What have you done when a hen of yours has gone broody?

I put eggs under a lot of my hens to hatch but only because I run out of room in my 3 incubators. I let a lot of my birds raise chicks as I think it makes them healthier but so far have not let my Marans raise any. They hatch them out and I leave them for a day or two and then move them into a brooder so my hens will go back to laying quicker.

In Grants' pen, my best Mottled Cochin pen imho, there are 3 youngsters that were hatched and raised by those girls and Grant. They are now 7 weeks old and looking fabulous. Maybe show kids and I will see closer to showing time. I do not care what judges think but would love for some folks to see what I raise and my friends show their
birds and I like to go be with them.

Here is another chick hatched in the same batch.

I am going to the Chickenstock in Lincolnton NC Sept 22 at teh Ponderosa Horse Park.

If any Mottled eggs go with me they will probably be pre-sold or fought over once I get there. They go super fast. Lately, with this ad up and running, I am staying busy filling orders with all they lay.

That is closer to you than the ones in MD and WV. I was kind of hoping you were going to one of them. Well, I will see how things stand after this weekend. I am cutting back another 30 birds this week...

I seldom go too far from home because of all my chicken chores waiting on me when I get home. We are possibly thinking the Greensboro NC show but that is as far as we would travel. Three hours is pretty much our limit.
