I have been looking to purchase some mealworms to breed from but im in the UK. 1. Im guessing shipping is out of the question as customs would see them as a hazard 2. Do you know anybody in the UK I could get them from, I have been trying to find out all over but nobody seems to know where I can buy live worms.
Kind regards
I am sorry but I do not know of any where you could get them in Europe. I would think there may be some places that you could get them from but I personally have not heard of any.
Great to hear!
They grow fast in the summer and mine have always been healthy and happy when I ship them out.
I never freeze any, I just keep them multiplying to feed to my chicks and to teach the birds to come when called. Chickens and Guineas go nuts over them. My Guinea girls even come off the nest when they see me coming with a bowl.
I hope you get thousands and thousands to put in the freezer for winter! Thanks for the update!
If you only have 3 birds that is a big relief. You can start with 1000 meal worms and build your farm up slowly or you can get 5000, have plenty to supplement their diet with now and have pupae to morph into beetles and supply your 3 pets with meal worms all through next winter without having to put any in the freezer.
Beetles lay eggs for about 3 months so you will have them hatching and growing all through the summer, which is best because the warmer it is the faster they grow, with a constant stable supply of fruit/veggies.
If you had 80 birds, it would be more frustrating but with 3, you have room to work. However, I always suggest going with what you can afford, especially if you want to supplement them instead of just giving as treats.
There is a paragraph at the bottom of my meal worm page on my website that tells you a bit more.
