She sounds like someone the police have become very familiar with over the years of consent complaining about someone or something and may just 'poo,poo' anything she says now.....you can always hope.......

Someone mentioned a privacy fence and I know how expensive the are. Do you live in an area where you can grow bamboo? It's not expensive and there are several types, it will grow a "wood" privacy screen fairly quickly.

Seconded, in warm places especially bamboo can get out of control fast, and it's an absolute pain to eradicate once it's set in. Poplars make a nice fence. They're pretty inexpensive and they can gain 5 feet per year in some places.

Out here in ABQ, New Mexico there are no limits on chickens. I think you have to get some sort of permit when you want more than 30 hens. Even still, one particular neighbor brought a fuss to me when I let my girls out to roam and they messed up her precious landscaped front yard. I brought her some eggs and a nice note, promising to clean up. Have had no word from them for weeks, not even a thank you!

I'd advise letting her call the authorities, and acting surprised and showing them her signature. Give the cop some eggs, even if they aren't yours, most folks have no idea what age hens start to lay. Show the cop how cute your girls are. Bribery works wonders!

I went ahead and brought them to the barn. I've approached her twice and she runs inside with her dogs. She's ALWAYS outside with her dogs, never leaving them unattended but I've seen them outside alone a few times and as soon as I go out with mine she calls them in. I seriously think she thinks I am going to retaliate. I spoke with the animal control and they have confirmed. If she wasn't my direct neighbor there would not be an issue but since she is, she is a requirement and can revoke. Anybody else can call and it will not have an effect if they come and find my coop and run in order. They said this is why the chickens down the road were removed. They couldn't smell them from half mile down the road, but they said the coop and run were too small for the number of chickens they had and they had over the allowed number of chickens per acreage of land.

They are doing well in the new run and in a separate area for now but there are a couple 4 month old buff orpingtons that stay right on the other side of the gate they are in. There is one other rooster and he is probably the nicest rooster I've ever met. The owner says he was raised with 7 other roosters (got straight run and really unlucky) and has never had a problem with other roosters so I guess my little cockerel will be the deciding factor on how they get along. There is plenty of room and plenty of hens for the 2 of them so I hope it works out. There is always someone there so if problems arise they can be dealt with. I brought them all some treats today since most of the chickens are strangers to me. Of course they appreciated it more than mine did.

In a couple years I may think about a tractor with a few in my immediate backyard where she would have to go to my neighbors on the other side to find them. I won't even bother with a permit because I know how that will go.

Well, you have handled the situation in the way that works best for you and that is what counts. I hope things change down the road so that you can have your chickens in your yard where you can enjoy them every day, but until then it looks like your beautiful birds have a nice home down at the barn.
