Trust me it not that complicated raising Birchen Marans.
They lay a DARK egg, and their Birchens.

I think you will find that any project you take on will have it's challenges. You are probably not going to come up with something new very easily.
Bringing in new colors to a breed often means getting close to what you want then breeding out the undesirable traits for that breed. So when you are done you have a new color in a chicken that conforms to that breeds standard.
You can't just throw two chickens together and say, Okay I have new breed.

BYC has RUINED me completely, I'm addicted, in particular to silly feather footed bantam - add blue egg laying if you like, chickens...

If you want to give him a ride he'd be welcome here LOLOL.

I'm setting up a set of banty party shacks, partly because watching the sizzles mate std chickens is too silly and sort of frightening for words...

It's NOT REALLY my fault - Laura said she wanted to keep the sizzles even after the Rocks started going broody on their own. I was going to sell em. Really. I WAS. I would have been sad, but I would have (sshhhhh).

BYC has been bad for me, exposing me to all these other breeds. A local farmer has made an offer for all my PRs and I am going to take him up on it. I admit it, I like Dels better, they grow faster, forage harder, think faster. Well, I'm keeping a couple but I have hugeee dental bills and his offer is good enough. I'll keep a few that might work on in the future but most are going. I'll keep my blues and my best barreds, but Dels are taking over. The marans - we'll see ending up with just two out of 20 eggs is a little disheartening. Both breeds I'd never seen or heard of before coming to BYC. It's all you alls fault.

I'm loving it. I don't mind changing my mind.

It is surprising how many people do that & say the offspring is this breed or that breed because it was either related to or has a some resemblance to that breed.

Cackle Hatchery has Birchen OEG-large fowl .Iova Blue is smolish large bird,Birchen patern,single comb,only you have to darken the eggs-they are light brown.I am tolking about Ideals birds,others are more Penciled.

Gold Birchens are correctly called Brown-Reds. This colour exists in many breeds including Pekins, OEG, Moderns, Wyandottes, Marans etc
You have plenty to choose from,
