Yeah........when I first moved onto "the farm", I kept saying I wanted 6-8 chickens. That's all, just a nice little flock to have fun with.......

150 birds later.......

LOL yeah the numbers thing... I try not to notice how many there actually ARE now either. Some dog wandered by and thinned the rank this week - GGRRRR. But yesterday a partridge rock hen went broody. Did you know they don't DO that? LOL.

So I'm letting her sit some eggs and hoping to high heaven it's not sizzle/PR eggs. Chuckle. I have to fence up the Sizzles.
So umm yes, if that Araucana cockeral would like girl friends at some point, bring him by. I'm getting the Banty Love Shack together. In the end I love playing with color among other things, which is something I had no idea I would. I was going to keep it simple, really.

To the OP, try feathersite.com for marans pics, or google the Marans Club, or find the Marans thread here in the breeds section. I'd link you to it but I think you should at least try to be able to do that much if you want to breed birds.

I wouldn't be surprised if some turn up under broodies until I get the whole coopage thing rearranged. I'm not so cold hearted as to bust a broody over mixed eggs so it's bound to happen at some point lol.

I also will be throwing some eggs into the new bator for a test hatch, so some very weird things could crop up.

Ione - as soon as I get the Love Shack up and secure and those girls start laying he can come vacation at my place

I'll be selling almost everything hatched between now and fall as mixed layers anyway so a few true odd balls like blue red and barred feather footed delawares.... or frizzled partridge rock, should be at least fun to watch.

LOL I'm finding out the attraction to that

and just a love of chicken color genetics which does not bode well for the limitation of #'s. Chuckle.

I'm going to put up the breeding coops I want for now, and just be flexible. There are more breeds I'd like a good look at, like Marans and Ameraucana. Because who knew I'd like Dels a bit better than the Rocks? Not that I don't LOVE a good Rock, especially the stock I got from Cyn and Halo, but the slightly raptor like, unintimidated nature of Dels suits me.

And in colors - well Birchen and Wheaten and BBS really do float my boat.... (And if you combine most of those with Delawares - you get a barred explosion of color).

I can see this really being enjoyable for wondering what's going to come out of my layer's eggs??? LOL.
