Bird Seed as treat for Chickens?

Im just wondering if you can feed bird seed as a treat to chickens?

Absolutely. I may be wrong but I *think* chickens may be birds.

It is just fine.

Sunflower seeds are especially great for your birds, It helps with the formation of feathers.

They can eat it, but it's pretty low in nutrition.
It's only about 9% protein

but watch it... they might just see you coming with it and RUN YOU DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! mine will kill for it. they actually jump at my bird feeder for it!!!! lol

oh yes!!! When i go out and feed the bird feeders containers.. yup, got to give a little to the big birds (chickens that is). my ducks eat it as well.

I have been using bird seeds.

My local feed store also carries pigeon seeds. The seeds are larger such as whole corns and peas. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I have always made my own scratch and most of the year, wild bird seed mixes are a part of it.
Yes, most of it is low in protein but about the same as most scratch grains. The exception is BOSS which is high in protein.
