birdnetting and snakes!

I found a second black snake in the netting on Tuesday morning. It was already dead and we were going out to grocery shop so DH decides to wait until we get home from shopping to take care of it. When we returned that afternoon the snake was GONE, the netting was not moved at all, not sure what could remove a snake that easily but something must have had a good meal.

I'm grateful to see this post! I've had two snakes this week, one on Monday, one today WAY too close to my chickens. I have some 2 month olds, and some small bantys, and I'm just afraid for them! Today I caught a 4' gopher snake with its head in their run,... my 3 month old Phoenix roo that was free ranging was doing his best to peck and distract the snake from the rear, what a little hero!! I wasn't far away, but my view was obscured by a cage door. When I heard all the racket, I went to see what was going on. I grabbed that snake by the tail, and ran as fast as I could to get him away from the birds!! He's not poisonous, so I didn't want to kill him, just set him on a new path...

I got bit by the one I caught on Monday, this one was a lot bigger, and alot nastier!! When I was far enough away, I dropped him, and just shooed him off from there.
