Is birdseed okay for chickens?

I switched to a bird seed mix when the weather got hot. The hens love the millet and sunflower seeds...no harm in feeding them bird seed.

how 'bout for egg laying?
Is it nutritional?

Not nutritional at all....6% protein I think. I use it as a treat (scratch). My main feed is a complete layer crumble (16% protein).
