Hey there, I recently moved my hens to a bigger coop and run, they have been fighting and I noticed one acting like it was in pain this afternoon. Upon further inspection I found that it’s eye was crusty and unable to open, there was a little bit of dried blood surrounding the area as well, I think she must have got hurt during a power struggle but it might also be an infection. Anyone have any advice or experience something like this before? I live far from a poultry vet so I’m want to do all I can myself first.

Ps she has a drip on her beak from water I gave her to drink.
There doesn’t seem to be any other injuries. She is a bit lethargic but has moved around some.

Welcome To BYC

Apply a warm compress with saline water to the eye to help loosen up the crusty material and get the eye open. Flush/rinse the eye with saline, try to gently wipe away debris, crust and pus. Apply an eye ointment like Terramycin into the eye. If you don't have that, you can use Original Neosporin.

Sometimes when fighting, they can get injured or a scratch to the eye. Hopefully this will heal quickly with daily care.

If she's lethargic, she may have been kicked in the head by another hen and she may not feel very well due to the eye injury.
Work on hydration. You can give her sugar water or electrolytes, then plain water. Offer her some wet soupy feed so she can manage that better since once eye is currently closed.
The goal is to get the eye unstuck and open.
