Mine abandoned their squab and it passed away

but I could tell its color the last few day. Same color as its dad. White wing times and head, normal blue color with a red back.
Just out of curiosity, Do you think they abandoned lil guy and that is the reason he died, or he wasn't all that great and went to the other side and then the ma n pa left him ??? My calculations put him at 4 weeks old as per your postings. He was full size , although still dependent on parents.

Not sure. He wasnt full sized, his pin feathers just started to open to show his color. Not sure why they left him. But they are already trying again

My guess he came from the shallow end of the gene pool and just passed because of poor genetics or any combination of factors. Sometime the parents see something in a squab that we fanciers do not detect as a flaw and do abandon the nestling. Even when you step in and try to save that squab it never turns out well is my experience.

Are they first time parents???

To my knowledge they are first time parents, but I am not positive

Things often go sour for first time parents if it is any consolation. They get too busy planning nest 2 and forget about nest 1. It is hard to really pin point what happen especially when the squab was so close to being able to fend for itself.

Do you think the squab could have been a victim of a predator attack??? Any wounds, blood, or puncture marks???

No predator attacks, i did look it over after i found it. I was told mice could hurt squab and i know the other birds in the pen could have done it, but he was sound looking

Mice droppings can sometimes give pigeon fanciers problems and cause death in birds; I never hear of mice themselves being a predator threat personally.

Loss is part and parcel of raising any type of animal. I hope you have better luck this day forward back yard buddy.

How long does it normally take before they lay more eggs, I just got a pair of pigeons and they were pretty stressed out and didn't sit on the eggs I got with them, so I took the eggs away, when will they notice they don't have eggs and lay more?

About 10 days after you see them copulating.
