Birmingham Roller Thread

Hi Sourland and laughingdog if your still on
hu.gif

I know some of mine before they roll had flown in tight little circles shortly after they started to roll.

im just not sure why none seem to flip etc anymore..
though recent ive had to keep them caged, as to not upset the neighbors, as apparently my cared for, handle able and tame ones, are a lot worse having around, than the wild ones, half like to feed, and the other half love to shoot (also reason im keeping in, as pretty messed up one neighbor has houses and feed etc out for the wild birds esp, and the cop who shares and apt wall, shoots at them for drunken fun).
i thought they might be, but theyre wings only opened half way, and still dont open to stretch, and stay arched, as suppose was how they were conditioned in low cages only high enough to be able to stand. since i cannot fly them, and would probably only use for breeders anyway, unless i end up along the way getting some great beautiful colored and patterned roller and fantail breeders. id be interested to discuss with breeders, or just other fanciers, how one would think to put the colors/patterns, looks/size/shape etc, into rolling pigeons from outsourcing with different kinds for breeding in their traits together and enhancing them..

thats got to be quite annoying withh theneighbors
I know some people will bring in another breed of bird and breed that to a roller
or they select birmingham rollers that are the closest color to the color they want and breed of of them.

so they just take the roller's color? does anyone do the opposite, or want duel purpose out of the offspring?

so here is an odd question maybe.. so ive noticed all the good rollers, have odd, or noticably differant eyes on each, and from other pigeons.. is there a reason for this (like neurological)? what are terms and discriptions, hopefully with pics, of the differant roller eye types? hear of bulls eye etc, but not shown if meant: the pupil constantly contratcing and dialating, or staying one or other. etc ???

It kind of depends on the judge, but the bird should still be nice and apple bodied [thick].I honestly like the dual purpouse rollers that roll since I do go to shows.

I have one with odd eyes, different colored eyes some people say its genetic and others say its with how much white they have I honestly think its genetic because I breed two odd eyes together and I got two normal ones although I breed one of them to a normal colored one and of the two offspring i got from this pair one had odd eyes.

The eye dialating is called the eye sign people also look at this

i ment as far as good rolling ability, and heavy compact apple body, the ones ive seen in person, all had crazy eyes, and no good rolling rollers without so far. ??? i neighbor has a perfect show male left last i saw, and gave him a homer female feral for it, as his female was hit by a car. wondering if i managed to get some babies from him (the chickens and his family break and take the eggs), if i could get or breed back out desired traits maybe hidden from father (he is lovely bald head red ash cock?
also, the male never hardly rolled at all when had old mate, as she was the stunt bird of the pair more and intiated the dives and rolls etc, but now the male rolls so far from up high, so fast, it crashes into the ground splat! gets back up their and does it all over again two or three times maybe if continuous to splat. any reason why itd start rolling like crazy now?

It might be a rolldown And why a hommer of all breeds. I would try to get ahold of the cock and bred it to a short disatce roller

I have 46 pigeons now 8 are squabs but one has down on its legs. Storms Flury just started rolling. And one of my pigeons Trapdoor for a change didn't copy the swallows by Flying in the barn through my old coop window and horse stall door.

I'm up to 10 birds now: 8 adults, one fledgling and an ugly baby that's about 10 days old

ETA: Hopefully I'll remember to get pics tomorrow cause I have no idea what color the fledgling is. One parent (believe it is dad) is the one in this thread that they thought was an indigo or ash red, and the other parent (mom I think) is one of the reduced T-pattern blue checks. The baby looks like a blue bar but the bars are red. Very pretty baby IMO
