Birthday Tomorrow Vent

This is going to be a vent sorry. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes this month. Tomorrow is my Birthday. I will be 35. So I am depressed because I will be closer to 40 than 30. I do not feel that old. And I will not be able to have any cake. This really SUCKS!!

Well there is one great thing this week. Thursday we are doing my oldest daughters Surprise Sweet 16 party. And she has no idea. But again no cake for me.

Thanks for letting me get this out

You're only as old as you feel, so you're on the right track there! The Diabetes diagnosis sucks--hope you find some recipes you like.
Happy Birthday anyway!

Heck honey, I am 50 and surely do not feel it....I act and feel like a 20 year old....

Happy birthday to you.....in any cake recipe you can substitute sugar with splenda and it turns out the same.....same with drinks I use less in drinks cause it is so strong to me.

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons splenda sweetner
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

Turn it around - instead of thinking "oh dang, no fun (i.e. cake) for me", think - okay this diagnosis gives me the opportunity to take care of my body the way it deserves. Your body is not your enemy - work with it and it will be it's own reward.

In the meantime, stay away from the buffet - it will only make you realize what you are giving up, not what you are getting.

Thanks alot I will try that chocolate cake tommorrow.
I have been really good with all of this. When I found out my numbers were 360s. With diet and exercise before I went to the endo my numbers were 220s to 250s. Know with diet exercise and Metformin they range 130s to 150s. But he may up the dose of the Metformin in June.

Thanks alot,
Melanie

Be careful. Not all angel food cake is low carb. Also, Pilsbury make a lower sugar cake mix. BTW you can have any type of cake. You just have to have a small portion and plan it into your total carb count.
