I *hate* seeing out of control dogs. I don't even think it is fair to the animal. Doggins are happiest when they have clear leadership and structure in their lives. Sounds like these guys need it.
I especially hate seeing bully breed owners who are crappy owners. The breed has enough bad image to overcome without lazy owners making them look worse

Ouch! That looks like it hurts! I wouldn't call on a friend, but I would let them know just how serious of a situation that is. She needs to get those dogs into obedience classes where her and the dogs can both learn.
Please show her your bruises. And let her know that her dogs are a law suit waiting to happen. Even worse that her dog could permantly scar someone.
A good friend just received a $7500 check from her neighbor's insurance company from her son being bitten by a dog. My friend loves animals and has never sued anyone before. But this neighbor refused to keep the dog contained and out of my friends yard. She was warned over and over after this dog attacked my friend's small dog and killed some chickens. The woman just brushed it off saying her dog wasn't mean. Then the dog attacked the boy in front of the owner and bit his face and ear and arm before she could pull it off.
I hope your co-worker learns how to control her dogs and that no one else gets bit. She needs a wake up call. If she is smart she will use your experience to her and her dogs advantage.

Yikes! There is something really wrong going on with that dog. I do rescue and have fostered dozens of pits and pit mixes, and I've never had a single one that would snap at people. In fact, I often tell people that most make horrible guard dogs since they'll often roll over on their back with happy wiggles when a stranger walks in. Are her dogs all spayed or neutered? It is spring and dogs are coming into heat. Hormones are the only things that I can think of that would make a normally friendly dog start acting aggressive. Her dogs definitely all need to be spayed or neutered if they're not anyway as we have a serious dog overpopulation and it's especially bad with pits and pit mixes and then that's compounded by the fact that there are lots of laws that discriminate against them. But seriously--I've known pit bulls that had been shot, beaten, and set on fire that would still lick you to death.

As far as people who let their dogs run wild in their house--that drives me crazy! This past weekend I went to tour an animal sanctuary where over 100 dogs lived. They all ran loose on the 150+ acre property, but they still all knew better than to jump up on people and were enjoyable to be around. It really bugs me when people don't know how to train their dogs and it makes the poor dogs unenjoyable to be around.

Both of the females were spayed, but the male was not altered. Ironically, he was the sweetest and most lovable.

The females definitely ruled the roost though...when they stared at me, it made me REALLY angry. I don't like being the one to give up a staring contest but being already hurt...there's no way I'd win that contest if it came to that.


Should I go ahead and put ice on it even though it's been about 5 hours since the bite?

holy crap...that is pretty outrageous...I would be ticked, would report it and would not be going back for seconds...your friend should visit at your house...not you theirs...those dogs have great potential for future mayhem...really ignorant owner to not see that and take steps to train the beasts and make good citizens of them...I have four large dogs and I would be mortified if that happened in my house with guests...it never will...

Yes, I would pour peroxide all over it and then ice it up. Dog bites hurt and they hurt for a while. It's like the muscle gets bruised down deep or something. Keep an eye on it for infection too.

Yeah...it really hurts to even lift my arm. There is some major bruising down below and it feels like there are knots in the muscle.

DBF is madder than a wet hen...got ice on the arm...how long do I ice it for?

I think it's 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. Treat it like muscle pain with anti inflamatories....aspirin or tylenol or something like that.

The bruising is getting darker. I used peroxide on it...no bubbling so I hope that's good.


Thanks for the sympathy everyone...and the advise on medicating myself!

Aleve is sounding pretty darn good tonight. She's coming over here tomorrow...should be interesting for her to see how well-behaved dogs can be. I just wish she could see the labs instead of the jerky poodle and ADHD Shih Tzu!
