Bits to prevent feather picking. Pros/cons?

Has anyone actually used these to prevent feather picking? Do they work? On the surface they _seem_ like a fairly humane way to deal with this problem, when all else has failed (extra protein, space, etc.).

When you say "bits" do you mean the pinless peepers? They are fairly effective at limiting feather picking.
