I had a raccoon problem last spring, so I bought a trap from Tractor Supply. Solved it in a few nights and have not seen a raccoon since...until this morning.

In my feed room I had a high stack of hay bales in one corner and that trap sitting precariously on top. I always intended to move it but somehow never got around to it. I opened the feed room door this morning and discovered the whole stack had finally fallen over, sending bales all over the room. When I finally got them all picked up, I found the trap on the bottom of the pile and under it a dead raccoon who had apparently dug under the feed room wall right under that stack of hay bales and been crushed by the resulting avalanche.

Somehow I don't think I can count on this method to be foolproof, though!

Yeah I don't think that a big stack of hay as a way to get rid of a raccoon will outsell the traps but it probably would be cheaper to buy!

Deadfalls worked so well in most states they are not legal a Paiute trigger is much easier to construct the the standard figure 4 most folks use
