Maybe BJ went quietly and Ellie in her distress knocked everything over...poor girl, sounds like you have a prospective new home for her...but how sad for you
So sorry. Just lost a couple a few days ago and didn't realize how hard it would be as this is my first flock. They were thirteen weeks old. After ten years... can't imagine. What a lucky boy to have had you in his life.
Thank you all for your thoughtful, kind condolences.
Some pictures of my brave, sweet, selfless boy.
BJ in happy healthy times, coming off molt
BJ loved the deck
BJ and Ellie looking worrisome at first in that position but just sunning, healthy and happy back in better times
BJ and Ellie exploring and playing during happier times
BJ and Ellie sunbathing on the deck in times gone by (unfortunately not this year because of more and more dogs running loose in the neighborhood
)
BJ so loyal - stayed by his lady's side making sure she was safe
BJ and Annie (RIP) going to town on the azalea bushes back in 2008
BJ and Annie (RIP) enjoying each others company for rest time, back in 2008
BJ and Annie (RIP) hanging out, Annie on the bench and BJ standing guard
BJ and Betty (RIP) when he was caring for her after she took ill from internal laying, back in 2006, BJ molting...They had been together 2 1/2 years at that point. BJ had initially been with his dear buddy we called Johnnie (didn't have digital camera then)- those boys were best buds, and Johnnie took care of BJ so beautifully until he sadly passed. BJ has since shown the same beautiful care of Betty (RIP), then Annie (RIP) and up until yesterday when she lost him, Ellie.
BJ glistening in the sun in his favorite dust bath spot (sadly not accessible to BJ in the past year plus because of neighbor's dogs running loose, so poor BJ and Ellie were fenced in much of the time)
Those feathers...just amazing...and still just like that today...so sad as it seems that something so beautiful should be alive......
