Black Acres: The chickens that saved me

Pics
Here is a rough draft of the Serama Shed plans. There will be 8 cages total placed 2 wide and 2 high. They will be on shelves along the East and West walls, so 4 cages on each side. There will be a storage cabinets at the back as well as one directly on the West inside the entry on the door. Small table at the front on the East wall for tabletop show training.

All of the insulation for the shed was purchased last night. We are expecting our first round of Winter weather with snow and ice starting tomorrow night and into Saturday and temps are expected to drop into the negative. So tomorrow I will need to first concentrate my energy on preparing the main coop with some extra bedding and keeping their water from freezing. I hope to feel well enough to get started hanging insulation after that.
This looks like a pretty decent set-up. I'm assuming the cabinets are big enough for their feed and ancillary stuff (hard to tell dimensions for sure in the pic.) Seems like it will be plenty roomy enough for you to move around and store things, plus plenty of cages for growth in your serama flock, too!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I have an easy solution to your feed dish problem, if I can find the post explaining it (@BY Bob shared his trick!)

I can't wait to see what I came up with. 🤣

Yes, the cabinet at the back will be for first-aid and grooming supplies. The one inside the door will hold feed, dishes, waterers and such. I’ve mapped out measurements and I think there will be plenty of space for me to move freely while I table train and allow them floor time to stretch and flap around. 😊

I’d love a solution for the feed dish! I’m sure it’s an easy remedy but I can barely see past this headache so thinking is not currently my strong suit. 😆

I feel your pain 😁 I am plagued with migraines... Every other day - very irritating and annoying....
I’m sorry. That has to be rough. I used to get them a lot and had prescribed medication to help but haven’t had one in a long time and stopped refilling the meds when I no longer needed them. I’m currently regretting that decision!

Here is the post with his great set up that will alleviate the bedding-in-the-feed-dish issue:

Have you tried Aleve (Naproxen)? A couple of those usually work well for me.

Can't wait to see pics of their new digs!

So sorry! I’ve not been feeling well all week so haven’t been on my update game. Johnny and June got their larger cage yesterday but I still need to make some adjustments. Especially for their feed dish. The little raptors kick it full of shavings every 5 minutes! But they are loving the extra space.

I was starting to feel like an orphan 🥺
Sorry your not feeling well kiddo, I hope it is nothing serious and you get ahead of it real quick.
A block of wood works well to raise waterers. I use old plastic containers as cement molds myself. They work pretty terrific though not all fancy like good ol @BY Bob 😉😉😉 but I am a lazy scrounger plus things are a little harder to come by on this rock. I even get fancy and hide Styrofoam in them to lighten them up. Don't be jealous now 🙃😄
So it sounds like your significant other is getting on board with the latest project? Im impressed but was there bribing involved? Cuz that always helps.

One of the things I like about @BY Bob's feeder & waterer is that it is easy to adjust the height in a cage, so as chicks grow...or if you use it when transporting adults in a cage (i.e. shows, in the case of @blackacres ) without anything else needed. I can also use this in my run (under the roofed part) as a supplemental feeder when I introduce newbies, so there are additional feeders for them to access...and unlike with blocks (I have done that many times, too), it doesn't get knocked over if they hop up on it or tussle near it, etc. -
