Black Acres: The chickens that saved me

I was starting to feel like an orphan 🥺
Sorry your not feeling well kiddo, I hope it is nothing serious and you get ahead of it real quick.
A block of wood works well to raise waterers. I use old plastic containers as cement molds myself. They work pretty terrific though not all fancy like good ol @BY Bob 😉😉😉 but I am a lazy scrounger plus things are a little harder to come by on this rock. I even get fancy and hide Styrofoam in them to lighten them up. Don't be jealous now 🙃😄
So it sounds like your significant other is getting on board with the latest project? Im impressed but was there bribing involved? Cuz that always helps.
I didn’t mean to abandon you, promise! :hugs
I’m still fighting a migraine and nearly at my wits end with the pain. I’ve had no relief for 36 hours now. 😭

I definitely have blocks of wood! I love the idea of concrete though too. I have plenty of old plastic containers and you’ve got my wheels turning now. 🥸 I have some round, plastic containers that may be perfect for such a project. Will have to get some quikrete though.

He’s on board simply because he doesn’t like them in the garage. I am very grateful for whatever help he provides, no matter the motivation.

I would be too. I like horizontal nipples so I used an old sturdy bucket or ice cream bucket to install nipples on for chicks and lifted it as they got older. All their water are nipples or those cups in warmer weather. No dirty water here.

I used a 2 gallon cooler (with nipple adaptors & nipples) this summer and LOVED it. I would freeze a block of ice & put it in in the morning & add another one when I got home from work so they had cool/cold water🚰 throughout the day - worked very well! (I did also use some rubber dishes, because I have ducks, and would put ice in those as well, but they were always warm - and filthy from the ducks 🙄- in the afternoon when I would rinse & refill.)

Love the cooler idea! I’m going to look up how to make them. I wish keeping water from freezing in the Winter was as easy as keeping water cool in the Summer. Just got back in from morning chores and it’s COLD! 🥶 🥶 🥶
