Hello,

WRT Lavender Orpingtons Charlie wrote " ....also there are none in the USA alive.... "

I don't mean to be rude by contradicting Charlie. But actually, for matters of acuracy, we've got very nice typey Lavender Orpingtons.....& partridge, blue partridge, red, red cuckoo, buff cuckoo, mottled, blue mottled, red mottled & various other colours of Orpington .....all made in the USA with British expertise:D.
No offense meant.
Best wishes

I have joined Your yahoo Site when Korfus Kluckers posted a link on here.

So glad to see you on here clearing this up and that there are other colored Orps available or being worked on.
Your flocks sound very impressive. We could only be so lucky to stumble on some English Know-how, No one does it better.

I saw the photo album Charlie created on your site, as well as his comments on your Lavender Orps.

Congratulations to all.

To be fair, the photos of the Lav Orps up on the yahoo site were from the rare breed poultry farm where I was the genetics director, back in Britain. But I nicked a lavender gene I found over here & made our own. Lavender is a very easy project I can post details on how to make them if it would help anyone. Our lavenders are pretty typey, but he comb on some is not quite good enough for Kevin's discerning eye LOL.
To be honest because poultry breeding is not my job any more, & I have no intention of showing in USA, I hadn't even thought of taking their photos. I'm back in Britain at the mo but maybe I'll take some pics when i get back....if the so & sos will stand still LOL

We lost a LOT of birds while we were moving between Indiana & Minnesota; we completely lost some of the other projects. So really we don't have enough birds to share the genes at present. We did a backstep with the partridge birds to improve size (type was great but they were a tad small). We ought to have a reasonable size hatch of buff cuckoos in about a week (Kevin's been busy). The male buff cuckoo is gorgeous. Buff cuckoo is a really easy project for anyone with nice buffs, especially with a buff cuckoo start. It would take two generations to breed true. Might have some cockerels to spare later, but for collection only & only for Orp enthusiasts.

Best wishes

Julie they are just beautiful. I never get tired of seeing your birds.

Krys, I recently joined the group as well and I am having a great time reading thru the archives like Sara. I do not have the space to work on Orpingtons now but I hope to in the future. I am in love with the Golden Laced. Can you tell us if there are efforts to create this color in the US now? Just curious. I also love the Buff Cuckoo, very pretty and a color I will definitely develop for myself when I can.

Krys welcome and as the old saying goes, A Picture is Worth a thousand Words, so hurry home and take some pictures so we can all sit around and drool.
Any suggestions on getting the size of the birds larger and stockier without the UK gene pool to draw from? Should we be using another breed crossed in such as Cochin?
Inquiring minds want to know how they got feathers so low down without having feathered legs and how they have such big birds that look like the legs are short?

Forgot to say Hey Adam. Thanks

Krys, welcome and nice to see you have joined the forum. To be fair, if you quote someone, you should quote their entire sentence.

there are none in the USA alive to even compare ours to that we know of

We truly didn't know of any others, so appreciate you coming forward with your info. While you hear rumors of others, if people don't communicate, no one can really be sure. We had asked on numerous occasions if anyone else was working on them and for them to make contact, but to no avail. Glad to hear there are others working on them and doing well with it. Perhaps we could compare ours to yours when we get to see pics to confirm we're on the right path.

Lavender is a very easy project I can post details on how to make them if it would help anyone.

I agree with this statement 100% and often wonder why more folks aren't working on them. I guess a lot has to do with the space and time necessary for a project of any magnitude. However, they are pretty simple once you get the right factors mixed in. Can't wait to hear your details, so we can compare notes.

Sorry Bama - didn't mean to go off topic and love your birds..just gorgeous. I hope you'll continue to keep us posted on their progress.

Krys, When I was reading the archives on your site, I found the first post on July 25th when Charlie joined and wrote that he found the site and found someone else working on Lavender Orps and they look great have nice body conformation.

Just wanted to be fair to Krys as well, Her being new and all.
