The two in the middle... so different... not sure if they are both hens or a hen in a roo? The little one was always smaller and we thought we lost her a couple times after bringing her home, but she made it and is fiesty as ever... but still so small compared to our other Australop. What do you think?

Different genetics plus the struggle you desscribe.. during the growth process.. any "smallness" becomes exponential.. hence the reason it's key to give meat birds the very best start.. Standard chickens should still reach their full genetic potential size long term.. unlike the broilers that will be harvested between 6 and 8 weeks.. making that early growth phase extra critical for them.

There is currently nothing I can see that points to cockerel verses pullet in your babies.

Red wattle or comb growth.. usually starts between 4-6 weeks for males of most breeds.

Glad your little one has come around to thriving! Fingers crossed your bigger one is just super healthy!
