Hello Everyone! My mom recently aquired 2 Sapphire Gem chicks from Hoovers hatchery/ Rural King. At 3.5 weeks old we have two chicks who look slightly different.

Neither of these chicks have the dot on their head that I thought sapphire gems did if they were barred/ roos, being that they are blue splash Andulasion Roos over barred rock hens. (At least that’s what Google says)

However, I am noticing some early pinking & leg thickness in one of these babies. I will post a pic of both of them & individual pics of them both

What do yall think?

Sapphire Gems are a sex-link hybrid, so the cockerels should have barring and come out with a white spot on their head. I think they're all pullets and look a little different just due to being a cross.

I think this is very possible. I’ve raised three of my own (all hens) & I remember being kinda sus of one, but none of them had this much pinking this early. Maybe she’s got that boss hen in her 🤣

They have no dot on theiir head because they are pullets.
Appreciate ya! That’s what I told my mom & older sister (I have raised them before) but they are gonna die on that rooster hill. Thought I’d come on here and at least get the opinions of the community.

I also heard through the threads that Hoovers has misbred/ or the retailers have mislabeled chicks before as sapphire gems and this has happened.

But like I told my mom “if they are true sapphire gems, they should have the dot if they are Roos, but if they aren’t sapphire gems, then it’s possible they are Roos”

But thank you for your swift & helpful reply 💗💗💗

I totally see it, I see the difference in how they look, the combs & legs. If it wasn't supposedly sex linked I'd agree its a boy, but I think all that can be done is wait and watch... I am super curious if it's just a spicy pullet or a hatchery error cockerel
