We have two Black Australorp chicks that are 5 weeks old exactly. These were sexed chicks from a reputable breeder in our area, all supposedly pullets. They are both so similar in appearance we have had trouble telling the two apart. They are the same size, same body shape, same leg size/shape, same feather development (except that one now has a slightly longer tail). The only real difference is in their comb. One, which I believe is a pullet has a yellow comb. The other's comb is a more dusky color, not red or pink exactly but not yellow like the first. I will post some pictures and am happy for any opinions. The first two pictures are the chick I believe is a pullet. The third picture is the two birds side by side. The fourth, fifth and sixth pictures are of the chick I am questioning. Many thanks.

I know how hard that can be.
I looked for pics in my kindle of my accidental rooster at 8 weeks but they must have been in my old kindle that got broken. He was super clear about being male at 8 weeks. At 5 weeks I suspected at 6 weeks I made sad faces and by 8 weeks I was looking for a home for him.

I also agree that it is a little too young to tell for sure. Nothing is screaming male yet. If wattles start to drop and the comb gets a little more red, then you'll know male.

Here are my latest pictures at 7 weeks. To recap, I'm trying to sex one of my two Black Australorp chicks. "She" has flat red patches under her chin but nothing dropping yet. Her comb looks like a dark gold in person. One picture includes her "sister" for comparison. They are still nearly identical except for the size of the comb. I'd welcome any thoughts.

I have one just like your suspected pullet and I’m all over the place on the gender. What did it turn out to be?
