Hi everone! We are new to the chicken business and got 4 chicks. They are 5-6 weeks old now. Three of them clearly look like hens to us. However, one has a slightly bigger comb. Nothing else that sticks out (same size as the others, same body shape). The comb is a tad pinker than the others but it’s definitely not red. So, we’re confused. Is our Alma an Elmer?
Thoughts? (All pictures show the same chick)

Looks like it could be, but I've never raised Australorps so hopefully someone else who has will chime in. It does appear to have wattles beginning as well, but maybe they all do?

It's possible, but it may take some more time to make a sure verdict. Sometimes cockerels can be slower developing and look pullet-y all the way up till saddle feathers and crowing give them away. Or you could have a faster developing pullet.

That’s a great point! We’ll keep on observing. Thank you!

Can someone tell me if it's true that you can tell sex by shape of the vent?
