BLACK AUSTRALORP HEN CROWING?

What are you looking at to determine the roo? When I look online at pics, I don't see pin feathers on "her" or saddle feathers. Her wattles and comb don't seem out of proportion to hen..... let me know. I would like to be able to learn what your are seeing.

I see what you are looking at regarding the tail feathers, but I am still having a hard time determining the saddle feathers. Thanks for your input. :)

Look at the feathers right at the base of his curved tail feathers, they will 'hang down' his sides. Compare these feathers to the feathers on the pullet thst is in the picture with him. I think you will see what I mean.

Agree that's a rooster. He's slower to develop than usual, but those are hackle and saddle feathers for sure. They're the shiny, glossy looking feathers hanging down the neck and over the sides at the base of the tail. Females don't get those, sorry. The crowing will improve.....

Need some advice... 12-13 week old Black Australorp "hen" just started crowing this weird sound, not quite a full cock-a-doodle-doo but not the usual squawking either. Trying to figure out, could "she" be:
1. A "he", actual rooster who will not lay eggs and will drive my neighbors nuts? OR
2. A hen that has gone alpha but will still lay eggs?
Anything I miss?

Thanks!

That seems a lot like a roo. He is just learning how to crow. My Black Australorp rooster sounded exactly like that when he was learning how to crow. The crow will even out and become deeper and more complete as he gets older and has more practice. That does look and sound like a roo though.

Thanks! That's helpful. Maybe I'm just hoping it's still a layer, but need to come to grips with figuring out next steps with a roo.
