I am doing a test hatch of Black Australorp eggs for someone yesterday and today. I have never seen BA chicks before. I expected them to all look alike and to be ... well ... black
. I have 9 of 15 out and they don't look the same. Some are mostly black with whitish down on chin & abdomen [ranges from almost none to moderate]on and white wing tips. The others have very golden/yellow down on face [around eyes and ears & cheeks, down the front of the neck and onto chest, abdomen and sides. Some have black on upper abdomen, ranging from a dot to a narrow belt. some have a narrow stripe of black at the top of the head [like a Mohawk], some just have a dot of black, they have creamy-yellow wing tips.
