We have 3 eight week old Black Australorps. one has a Very developed wattles and combs, one has almost none, and the other is in between. From my untrained eye i would assume the very developed is a male, while the one with little development would be a female. But can anyone help me figure out what sex the middle one is? We CANNOT have roosters in my city and would like to give myself as much time as possible to find a good home for it if it is a male, but don't want to give away a female. It does seem that the male and the unknown do have some standoffs where they seem to be sizing each other up with the necks stretched out.

Male and the unknown

Thank you for your help!!!!!

Well, I raise australorps and they look rooster kind. Look for coloration of comb. Males grow big red and fast. Also check for attitude they are more alert and jumpy and noisy. They are a good breed to start, really tolerant to weather but roo could be loud and bossy...

Thanks everyone. I had assumed it was a male, but I started second guessing myself because I didn't want to give it up if it was a female.
