We started our backyard chicken adventure with five chicks and now at 13 weeks, two are crowing! Quite sure our leghorn is a Roo, but less sure about the Australorpe. Pictures attached - any suggestions?

Also looking to make some decisions about what to do next. Give away 1 or both roos (if we have two), or get more hens? What is the safest and healthiest ratio of roosters to hens for a backyard chicken coop?

With much gratitude.

Rooster, and I say a good ratio is 7-9 hens per rooster. (which is funny since we have one tiny rooster and about 20 girls XD)

I agree it's a rooster, but would personally up the ratio to at least 10 hens per rooster (although with a gentle breed like Black Australorps one rooster would probably not be too hard on 7-9 hens). The only reason you really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching a 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in this regard.
