The combs and wattles redden up about a month before lay. As time gets closer, you can hold one of them like a football, head pointed back. Right above the cloaca you should feel too points. That's the pelvis. A young pullet will have the two points close together. As they get closer to lay, the points widen. Once you can fit 2-3 fingers between (depending on the size of your fingers) they're just about there. Are they squatting yet?
