Hi - a lady at church was asking whether I could raise this special chicken breed for her to use as medicine. The skin, meat and bones are all black. Anyone knows where I can buy some hatching eggs? Thanks.

Pure silkies come in a lot of colors. Pure silkies should have the black bones, skin, meat and all no matter the feather color. Even my silkie mixes have had varying types of skin from white to spotted to black, along with their organs.

Have to admit, the first time my dad went to put one of the extra silkie boys into the pot from out of the freezer, he had to ask my mom if it had went bad. She laughed and reminded him that I had brought over a few silkies the last time we processed birds.

Yes, the article refers to silkies. Their original feather colour was black, but skin, meat, organs, bones are all black. The are traditional in Chinese medicine. Oriental groceries likely carry them.
