Black Bottom...Gross! What's wrong with my poor hen? Graphic photo...beware

To try and debride the necrotic black leathery skin, warm soaking in pretty much anything for 20 mnutes or so daily will work. Use a little friction with a cloth to remove the skin. If you see bleeding, that is enough. Hydrogen peroxide is also excellent for debriding used full strength, but don't use it once the skin is pink and more normal looking since it can prevent healing. Coat the wound with antibiotic ointment afterward, such as plain Triple Atibiotic or Neosporin.

Hi, my girl is still hanging on but very weak. She had maggots but I believe I got them all as of Thursday. Her wounds are healing...dry, but still black. No open areas or redness. But she is still extremely lethargic. I have kept her isolated since Thursday bc the other girls are picking on her. Her appetite is good ... I've been giving her grain, yogurt, bananas and other fruit. I have added electrolytes to her water. But I am not sure that this is a slow recovery or if there is still more going on than I can see. How long is typical recuperation? When she is alone she just kind of slouches over like she is about to die, but when I come out she perks up and devours the food. Not sure what to do now. She still has runny droppings but I don't see any worms or maggots in them. Thank you for all of your help so far. By the way... I have been bathing her in a betadine solution and then sprayed "cork worm" spray which killed the maggots. I am wondering if the spray made her sick bc it is strong.
