black broilers

I have three black broilers left from a flock of sixteen,they are around seventeen months old,I am going to be processing them soon,would they be good for stew or dumplings at this age?they have been pen raised and fed layer pellets,and should I put them on a different feed for a week or so.like corn or scratch to improve the flavor,they are around eight pounds as of now,thanks
 
I don't know about black broilers, but I was told with my cornish X to give them cracked corn on top of feed for a week or two before butchering to give a little extra fat and fat adds flavor. I didn't do it this time so can't tell you if it worked. Hope this helps a little.
