Today we had some duck eggs "Pipping". One has started to turn black on the bottom. We candled it and determined it was dead. Upon throwing out the egg the duckling was fully developed but dead. Inside the egg was a live black bug. Any ideas? I have googled and googled and can find nothing on this situation. Thank you in advance.

Do you have a picture to share?

I'm guessing it crawled in through one of the vent holes and found that egg. Who knows if the egg was alive or dead when that bug found it. I've never seen any bugs in my 'bator, but maybe someone else that has will see this.

I have never seen a pill bug or as I call them rolypoly that looked like that. I also agree it makes no sense. Very concerning for me as I have an incubator full of duck eggs
