Our beloved black cochin (just over a year old) has suddenly developed a "white eye", almost like a cataract, and is separating herself from the flock, not eating well. Any thoughts? She has no discharge, does not appear to have any mites. We have had many chickens but are far from experts, though these ladies are our babies and we love them so! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It would help greatly if you could post a photo showing this. Is it a white covering or has it lost an eye?

In any case please post with photo as "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures, " thread to see if anyone knows what this is and how to treat it.

Please post with all details known to you , how long ago did this appear? How old is the bird.

Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like an eye infection, however something else maybe going on with the bird. The pupils get covered with a white film. You can try some Opthalmics on the eye. This website has some great eye ointments and drops. He ships quick too....

You should also post this in our emergency section for more help too. Kelsie has left you with the link.

Good luck and I hope you can get this bird back to good health soon.
