I desperately need help for my remaining two chickens. I have lost three within the past two months. They started getting a black tinge to their comb , which then spread to their wattle but also their faces went very dark, stopped laying and by the end were getting secondary infections perotinitus etc. They were treated by the vets with antibiotics then put on a course of wormer, but nothing helped. They became lethargic, scruffy looking feathers, Began losing their balance and stumbling. This went on for approximately two months with me thinking sometimes they seemed to be improving. But became ill again that they could not stand up and had labored breathing. At which point I had them put down by the vet. The vet has now said its genetic and that I should just give the remaining two a good quality of life before they also die. they are starting to get black combs and have also now stopped laying. I dont see how this can be genetic as surely they would not all get it within weeks of each other?? I really dont want to watch the girls just die its heartbreaking. The photo I have is of Vindaloo two days before I had to have her put down as you can see her comb has gone very dark and wattle also her bright red facial feathers turned a very dark color. Someone suggested histamanosis but I cant get any of the the medication in the UK for it.
