Edited to add that she is very nice both in personality and to work with. I recommend her based on my limited experiences with her.

I think I went on the list in like April maybe? I've debated back and forth about getting these but if she says it is my turn I probably won't turn down the opportunity!

They are nice looking birds as well - especially the roosters. Those dark eggs just look scrumptious.

My Copper Blacks are also from Bev and I can attest to the quality. Hatch rates can vary a lot, especially on shipped eggs, but you can normally get a decent start on a line. Sometimes things work against you and you get nothing. I have been on both sides of that equation. My best hatch rate on shipped Marans was 5 out of 16. Hatching my own I average 90-100%. I have heard of others getting much higher rates so it is a roll of the dice and hope the shipping gods are smiling on you.

EVERYTIME I see your posts I click on that website link hoping it will take me to some Marans Hatching Eggs For Sale page......... but it NEVER does!!!

a 3,really? From what I understand,the egg color must be a 4 to even be considered a true marans. I have a hen that lays a 4 egg. I never sell or set her egg. She's still a wonderful bird,is a steady layer and is currently taking care of 5 chicks.
edited to say: Sorry, mine are cuckoos. Didn't mean to leave the impression that I had black coppers.

Sorry to be a buttinski, but I'm not looking for hatching eggs but am covetting some black copper Marans pullets, day-old chicks would be best. Is there anybody out there willing to hatch and send me some? I live in the Roseburg, OR area and would be willing to drive to pick up if not too far. I would also be willing to make a "plan for next year" regarding this issue.

bluerose, anyone that sells you sexed day olds of copper black is just guessing, unless they did DNA sex testing. You can't tell copper blacks until they either crow or lay an egg. i have some young started birds bought eggs off bayhorsebonne on ebay. I hope to be hatching something this fall. I am in So Cal, so shipping shouldn't be a problem from here when the time comes. PM me later in the year if you haven't found what you need.
