This is a pic of our two Black Copper Marans. They are eight and ten weeks old. The ten-week old is clearly a roo, but we're starting to think (hope) the younger is a hen. Is this pic clear enough to get any opinions?

Thanks for the.replies. I've had folks from another forum also assure me that the younger of the two is a hen. I'm going with that for now because I really really want it to be true!! Fingers crossed!

I have 4 Black Copper Marans and I emailed the lady that I bought the hatching eggs from to ask what they were after they hatched. She passed on valuable advice. When it lays an egg, I'll know it's a hen. lol She also said that the hens have smaller cones above the beak, they also have longer red jowl's below the beak.

The one on the right is the pullet

Thanks, Sally8! That's pretty much what I've realized is the case. For every person that swears it's a hen, at least one more is positive it's a roo. We'll just wait and see!

Here's an updated image of the two BCMs. It has been almost three weeks since my original post and I'm feeling more and more certain the one on the right is a hen. I love the advice that I'll know it's a hen when it lays an egg, but I'm also DYING to know and hate waiting! Opinions?
