Black copper maran - hen or roo

I thought hen too. But she started crowing a few days ago. I know they sometimes do that but it has me worried. Just wanted more approval for hen

It looks like a rooster to me, though I would expect a Black Copper Marans rooster to have some copper on him. Is it possible that "he" isn't really a BCM?

I seen
400
the parents on the premises. Black copper marans to me. She has small streaks of copper in her neck. But that's it. No sickles around the rump. Nothing precluding boy in my opinion.

How old is it? Looking at the other birds with it, I'm saying cockerel. I'd also think not pure BCM.

I'd say cockerel too. Especially if he's young and just started crowing. That screams boy

I agree with BantamLover21 and donae. I think it's a cockerel and likely not a pure BCM.

Hi,
I have 8 chickens 5 are lavender orpington's and 3 black copper marans. I have 2 marans that are a lot bigger than all the rest. I saw one do a little 'dance'. He fluffed up and stuck a wing out and ushered the other chickens to move out of the way. I've never seen it before or heard of a chicken doing something like that. If I have 2 chicks that are substancial bigger than the other chicks. Does that mean the big ones are roo's? I'll post pic in the morning.
