Black Copper Maran pullet or something else?

My Marans in the picture (Opal) is super sweet! I would recommend Marans to anyone, they are solid birds.
REALLY solid. My current BCM baby grew so fast hubby thought I’d gotten a different bird. At 8 months she now dwarfs my “Big Boned” BO 🤣
Love the name Opal, I also think she’s a pullet but I am not good at this game 🙂

I just went back and reread, does your baby have feathered legs?! Cuckoo Marans are generally clean legged although there are French Cuckoo Marans as well. If the legs are feathered like a BCM, I am thoroughly confused.

I don't understand why but I see quite a few clean legged Cuckoos being posted especially from Hatcheries. Clean legged is considered English Standard in the UK. It's possibly because these were imported from Europe to the states but I could be wrong here.
All other countries follow the French Standard with Marans which requires feathered.

They are feathered! You can kind of see it in this picture (it was taken a week or so ago):

So because she has feathered feet, she was most likely imported from another country? I would be a bit surprised to hear that because I just got her from a farm store, so nothing special there... Then again, I know nothing about breeding and selling chicks, so that could be normal.

Nah, it just means the feather legged variety was originally imported from France. Any bird coming from one of the big hatcheries that supply farm stores is going to be many generations removed from the original imported birds.

From what little research I did on the feathered legs, there is both. I noticed Cackle sells French Cuckoo.

All Marans were originated from the town Marans, France. This is why it was stated earlier it's always spelled Marans, singular or plural.
It is pronounced Mah-ran, spelled Marans. Singular and plural.
Here's my limited knowledge....
From my understanding, the English took some back to England, bred them to their liking, clean legged and created their own English Standard. Whereas, the US and all others breed for French (feathered legs), somehow the Cuckoos here in the states are both clean and feathered options.
@BlueTheBrahma is in the UK and much more knowledgeable on the Cuckoos as he breeds those varieties as well as other Marans and I bet could shed more insight than I have.
I would favor having the French Cuckoo if I had them as being here in the US we follow the French Standard for feathered shanks. Whereas, BluetheBrahma breeds mostly clean for his Standard.
So to answer your question... All Marans were imported to the US at some point, and yours is French.
