Black copper Maran question

You are welcome! Though, I just noticed her eye color. Marans have VERY orange eyes normally. She could be a mix. What color legs does she have? I can not tell in the photos.šŸ˜Š

Hereā€™s a pix of her around 4 weeks old. You can see some of her legs in this one.

They look slate, though hard to see in the photo. This is the correct leg color for a Marans, though the eye color does look off. Even my Marans/ameraucana Olive egger has as bright a orange eyes as my Marans. Your little one is a little cutie though!šŸ„°

So, this got me thinking. I have two BCM chicks right now, and their eyes are black. I also have a BCM hen whose eyes are bright orange. So I wondered, do they start black and then change?

They do! The following pictures are of the same bird at different stages of development. Between black and orange her eyes took on kind of a gray color when she was a young pullet. I'm not sure exactly when they turned orange.

Oh, and she is definitely a BCM, although you can't see her copper in these photos. She only has a tiny bit on the back of her neck. She lays this dark egg in the back:

This is great info! My girls eye color right now is the same as yours in the top 2 photos. Thanks! šŸ˜Š
