Has anyone tried this cross? I was thinking about doing it come September. It stays hot here in Mississippi till about November so I’m not to worried about hatching so late.

Depending on what the Buff Orp hides(some hide blue/Splash, dominant white) if the BO does not hide any black color diluters then the chick will hatch looking like a regular black copper maran chick, but as it grows it will develop gold leakage on the breast and underside.

My hen hatched two chicks in June of this year. A roo and a pulled. The hen was a buff oroington and the roo was a maran.
