Hi Everyone,

I would be really grateful if you could advise whether you think my 4 week old marans chick is a roo/pullet?

I have heard both sexes of this breed often develop their comb/wattle early so keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

It’s hard to tell at this age. Best age is 6-8 weeks. The wait is unbearable though. The comb still looks pale, but it does have reddish wattles.

Not at all sure, however, based on age and wattle growth and color I’ll venture is likely a male. I’ve raised straight run BCM and yes, the girls will pink up a bit on the early making one anxious, but the males are further ahead and get the early wattle growth.

Here is another picture of a blue sibling I am almost certain is a cockerel from their attitude! Noticed the comb on this one is quite a bit thicker and more developed. Feisty little bird
