Hi everybody. My Black Copper Marans cockerel is just over 4 months old. We have like one breeder here in South Africa that imported BCM's so as with many breeds the genetics and quality are iffy. Any thoughts on this guy? I tried my best to catch him standing still and in a few different positions but this was the best I could do! Thanks

not all Marans have feathered legs the British standard is featherless on legs. The American standard must have feathers to be shown as I understand it. So in the USA the feathered leg variety is referrred to as French Marans and those without are referred to as English. Hope that helps. That being said we are new to the breed ourselves but I've been doing a lot of reading about them.

Thank you. Yes, my understanding is that our Marans in South Africa are of the British standard, aka featherless legs. I don't think there are too many other differences besides the feathered/featherless legs. Any thoughts on the cockerel besides the legs would be appreciated.

Well my two cents that he's a handsome bird and will only get more so as he matures. Congrats ☺️
