Here's what I did with the faulty pullets from my first try

the one to the left doesn't look too bad. The straw colored ones make good crosses for making Golden Cuckoo marans as well as olive eggers like you did.

The biggest problem was the yellow feet on half of them. I just didn't do my research before buying...
But I learned my lesson and am ready to try again

Hi Morbius 18 your cockerel is stunning for sure he s a breeder.i like his type he got a lot mass ,nice copper .pure black.nice feathered legs .long wide back.No sign of White feathers.
one thing I can t see properly is his Ears tuff ( ears down colour) shoud be a same colour as his hackel NOT BLACK. and the second thing I can t see is his Comb.

Not the greatest comb . nice coppery ear fuff. Keep your eyes on him ,he s a good subject to follow up. let see the comb in few month.

This is more of a question about marans in general: Do maran roosters have pretty much the same disposition in all maran breeds? Also, are maran roosters generally nasty or docile as far as roosters go? A lot of people near me are giving them away for free so I'm curious.

the marans roosters are gentle in general ,depond where they come from.
last year I worked with 50 marans rooster all cool except ROCKY one of the Black copper rooster and CHARLIE the silver cuckoo marans rooster = that is 4% nastiness in my flock.No bad.

What I meant was, are all Maran roosters similar in temperament regardless of breed (birchen,black copper, cuckoo etc.) ? In other words, are black copper maran roosters meaner than cuckoos? Are birchen more easy-going than cuckoos? Or is plummage the only difference between them?

Ah that cool.
I thinks is how they get bread and raised .
I m doing a experiment .I m raising the son s of my nasty 2 Roosters Charlie and Rocky .I m trying to find out if they passe that gene to they son s. so far so good.
one cockerels son of Charlie is showing a sign of nastiness ( out of 30 cockerels ) Rocky s progeny no sign of any trouble.

but I think every chooks woman and man have they own story.

I've had BCM and cuckoo, and both were great roosters. I still have a cuckoo, and he is the best rooster on the farm. Good to his girls, good fertility, first to call out when a hawk flies over, and not aggressive at all
