Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I need some input.. This chick was hatched out of black copper and blue copper hens, with a black copper cockerel. any idea on why its yellow? Thanks!
I would guess that your rooster and at least one of your hens carry wheaten. It's fairly common in BCM. I think my rooster carries it too. I expected all of my olive egger chicks (BCM x silver EE) would be black, but I hatched some yellow chicks too...

I ordered breeders choice Marans from a reputable breeder. I got 10 Marans. Can you help me figure out what type? Maybe cuckoo or BC or a combination?

Also, there is a Cochin and 2 ameraucanas mixed in.

I hope they make it alive and well! Florida to Wa. state is a long ways!!!!

Thought I would share a pick of hatching eggs that I got from an established breeder. The lighter egg top center is from my current BCM Flock...big difference in egg color. The eggs are going in the bat or this evening.

I've ordered juveniles from VT and CO to CA and ordered from within my own State. The orders that traveled from East Coast or Rocky Mtns to West Coast arrived the next day and the order from within my own state took 2 days to arrive. I think cross-country ordering is better than in-state because USPS uses FedEx Air to expedite cross-country shipping.
