I ordered breeders choice Marans from a reputable breeder. I got 10 Marans. Can you help me figure out what type? Maybe cuckoo or BC or a combination?
Also, there is a Cochin and 2 ameraucanas mixed in.

I think the distinction was dropped because the standard calls for feathered legs. If a bird does not have feathered legs he does not meet the standard. I think having two names for the breed would cause more confusion. There are clean legged BCM but they are incorrect no different than BCMs that have incorrect color, comb, body type, etc. All BCMs in the US should follow the breed standard, they must have feathered legs.Bare legs are the UK Standard and are called Blck Copper Marans. Feathered are the French Black Copper Marans. I'm told that all BCMs in the US are FBCMs. But I'm finding some that are unfeathered legs, so I think there still needs to be the distinction in calling the chicken one type or the other![]()
