Black Copper Marans discussion thread

For Snowbird or another experienced breeder please
I'm hatching eggs now, I've got some pullet eggs that are generally 5,6 and the odd 7. Not sure how large the hens will grow out to. And I've got all black hens that lay an x large egg and they are a good hefty size bird. They're older and eggs are about the same colours but mostly spotty and many have a real dark top and lighter bottom( some 8 tops) I've got a Roo from dark egg line, nice colouring but small in stature and short back. Out of the cockerels and pullets that hatch, which line is likely to be best for breeding. I will be banding them to keep separate.

I believe you already know from some of the posts in the past that the best Type and SOP type Marans do not always lay the darkest egg. In my own experience I would not use a Male with short Back and small size as a breeder male.
The pullet eggs will probably hatch smaller chicks. I like to use older females for hatching chicks from. Why not post a picture of some of the eggs.
