Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I am bummed I just rec'd BCM eggs in the mail that were terribly damaged but worse yet I was expecting #8 if I remember right (nice 6s would have been acceptable)& what I got were #4s. My own birds do better than that. I need to go back & check my emails & notes. Shipped eggs are a big enough gamble without extra disappointments added. I don't know when it is fair to complain. I try so hard to be fair. I have replaced eggs that didn't do well. I only sell my BCM from home so the customers know exactly what they are getting, color wise & bird wise.
On a happier note my Fitzgerald Wheatens are hatching as I sit here & in 2 days my White Rocks are do. I just keep on trying.

Have you contacted the seller? I would definately complain! Bad packaging and bad egg color will soon catch up to them. If they are honorable, they will replace I would hope!?? You can't advertise an 8 and expect folks to be happy with 4s, unless they aren't worried about making any future sales? JMHO

sorry to hear about your bad luck Karen I would complain to the seller even if it doesn't do any good it's not right to send light eggs if your customer is thinking they are getting dark ones and no excuse for broken eggs I always replace mine that get damaged and they are packed well in the foam.....

so sorry Sew... I agree... If you are not shipped the merchandise as promised... like everything else.. Seek remedy. If it is a reputable person this should be fairly simple.

Hi All...long time lurker here. I am on my second gen. of Black & Blue Coppers.

I was wondering what you all would say about my guy Gary here. He is 7 months old.

He is struting in the picture so he looks a bit distorted, and his legs are blurred but his shanks are wll feathered.

thanks!

Just my opinion on Gary, but here is what I see.

He looks to be very slight in build, he may bulk up some with age. His tail set is too high. Hard to get a true picture of the tone of his coloring in the crate, but he looks to be very dark, like mahogany colored in his hackles and saddle feathers. Can't see the legs or feet. Eye color looks ok, comb looks good from what I can see, shapewise anyway. Any chance of getting a better pic of him? Like outside on a cloudy day? That seems to me the best setting for true colors in pics, here anyway.

Need a frontal shot, profile, and from the top like standing over him.

You will need a better picture for us to fairly critique him. From the picture, I can tell nothing about his color.
His tail looks too high and his back too short. HOWEVER, this is an off the cuff evaluation because the picture is too dark and he is not in a natural pose.

Try to get one from the top, one from the side, and one from the front showing his chest

another view would yield much more information on Gary.

I can say that the eye color looks good... The comb looks good... the back is short...the tail is well behind the vertical (not desirable) Can't see legs, ear coverts etc...

Did you hatch him yourself?

Thanks, like I said he starts struting every time he sees the camera....I think he is doing the funky chicken.

It has been raining like mad here hopefully the sun will come out tomorrow and I can get him outside. I did not breed this one, he was given to me when I was picking up hatching eggs. I have been having trouble with leg feathering and his are heavier than most. I did notice that his tail looked high set but it really looks worse in the pic. He is also larger than you might think. That is a HUGE dog carrier. I use the crate to keep new birds separate for while since it is easy to disinfect.

I will try again tomorrow.
