Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Just kidding. I can only get my blues and Coppers that dark.

The left nine are cucu and the right nine are whites. Sorry I didn't clarify that.

These are from a guy in PA. Bev Davis reffered me to him he is doing a whites project and I wanted in.

I just have to kvetch for a minute.

Every time I see that rumpless cockerel (from the front) out of the corner of my eye, I think, "Wow, great chest". Then I look and see it's the rumpless and go

. That poor guy has the broadest shoulders and deepest keel of any of the cockerels. With no tail as a counterbalance I'm surprised he doesn't just fall forward on his face. LOL
Why, oh why did he have to be rumpless?!?!

If you look at him from the front he looks simply fabulous. Just my luck. Well, I probably shouldn't complain about my luck, since he's going to be a one-serving chicken dinner soon.

Okay, kvetch over.

Yes, I'm trying to maintain my sense of humor about it. The irony is that the friend of mine who's going to eat him...thinks the part that goes over the fence last is the tastiest part of the bird.

He's just going to have to make do with lots of breast meat.

Well normally it would be tail feathers..... BAHA HA HA... (my bad

)

SEWANDGROW: did you get remedy for the bad shipped eggies???

I am working on my website, the whites are at my uncles farm so it will be hard to get pictures of them. I let him take them because the roo was too agressive and I have small children. He also has a lot of my cucus because he likes the color more than I do. We share chickens and costs

it works out well for us. I love the Coppers and blues so I raise them. I have two white hens that I hatched last year and I also have some blacks here. I have 70 adult birds total only 56 are Marans. 7 roos with 5 hens each.

Biddy~I have rumpless Auracauna hens I really like them because of their look. It is however very hard to get an egg to hatch. I have set 13 from my trio this spring and have 3 chicks out. 2 rumpless one tufted. Marans is gooood eatin' you should have him for yourself!!But really does your friend eat the Parson's nose?...eww the guy that is teaching me to process my birds has a daughter that eats the feet........

Whoa.. so cool.. I made a spoof about the Bork... And the starchix hovaprize With captain quack and Lt shamano... ha ha ha... Space the final front yard... these are the vogages of the chix from inside .. bla bla bla... I have a whole thing on it with pictures...See my AVATAR... I drew that along with a collection of "the collected"... after all isn't it about seeking out more space... ha ha The collected has the cube... the Bork has the "Ovum".. LOL (I had way to much time on my hands)

Love to see some of the whites... throwin out some respect for that gettyup.. for reals... marans marans.. I could so get off topic here..LOL

Better pic of Paulie.. is that because he is a Bradshaw bird? Everybodies birds took a beating this year in your neck of the woods comb wise... It is prudent in the winter to have some of the "hot hands" on hand for just this kind of emergency.. I lost 1/2 my hatch for this year... Same deal only it was pip day... Such a loss... 75 percent of my hatching birds.

I believe you, but I can't yet bring myself to kill and eat something I hovered over and, frankly, prayed for while it was hatching. I'm going to feel bad enough about handing three culls over to be eaten. I've got a Jeane C1 cockerel and pullet that both have orange breasts, they gotta go.
(And yes, he loves the tails, but he calls them the "Pope's Nose". I guess that's the Protestant version. LOL)

By the way, is there anyone here who did not grow up doing their own butchering who does it now? How hard is it to get over the citified repulsion to it? Does it get easier after the first one? The first two?
