Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thanks, Don. I think Uckele sells it by the pound, though not sure. I may need to look into it if it's only 5% of the ration.

I wonder...on the "Game Bird Chow" that Purina sells. That stuff is 32% - wonder if I could get a bag of that & just throw a handful into each pen once in awhile, like folks do with cat food?

I'm trying to increase protein, but not to a point where organs are affected...this worries me, since I know that too much protein is hard on organs...

Purina sells the Mazuri Game Bird Breeder it has fish meal in it and that's all I feed my laying turkeys good eggs etc it is cheaper to feed this than any other feed because they eat less waste none at first I was thinking it was too expensive...my chickens like it but I add Farmers Ultra Kibble to my feed (43% protein) I make like a roller mix and get plenty of eggs and add other stuff too I think adding kelp has done wonders too.....it keeps waste down so that saves me money. I like the flock blocks they sell too they last a long time firm droppings no smell keeps me happy too. I still give them lay mash but they don't eat a lot of it unless I mix up hard boiled eggs in it....

Good info. I have looked at the Blocks and wondered if they were any good. In the good olde days we used to be able to get Whey blocks that were great for chickens also.

Do you use this ACV recipe all the time, or is this an addition used periodically?

I try to do it every time I refill the waterers. For the smaller watererers I premix the ACV in a gallon jug and then distribute from there

I'm all about convenience so I keep a bottle of ACV next to the hose. We have really dense calla lilies there so I put the bottle in the plants and it always stays shaded and super cool LOL At least those lilies are good for something

It does look more like a pullet to me, but I don't rule anything out.
