Don, I was just looking for fish meal this past weekend - the only thing I could find at my local feed mill was actuall fish food - made by Purina, "Game Fish Feed" - I believe it was 32%. Is this the same thing? Could you share the brand & protein level of the fish meal you are using?

Wynette, UCKYLE in blissfield has it in #50 bags , the fish food is entirely different , they will eat but will drink 10 gallon of water

Very cool, thanks Don! I'll see if the feed store can order it (or carries it) and if not I'll check with a Koi supply store. I've been using ACV in their water and they do really well on it.

I am REALLY REALLY hoping to keep some pullets from this last hatch to grow out and enter my first chicken show. I'll post pics when they are older before I make any decisions about which ones to keep

I have always used 4 oz. -2 tbls each gallon of water

$1.66/lb. - so it would be $83 for a 50# bag. YIKES!

They don't list it on their site, but I'm on hold with them right now...I'm asking if it's a pellet, flake, crumble or what. Thanks, Don! I seriously doubt I'll be getting it as it's much too expensiev for me, but I'm curious about it! Again, thanks a bunch!

Forgot to say the fish meal doesn't have to be mixed in the other feed. Put some fish meal in a pan or bucket and dampen it with some liquid and make some Golf ball size balls and feed it to them.

Okay, the lady I just spoke with said it's a meal. Don, how much would you feed, say, a flock of 20 birds? Golfball size...one "golfball" a week, maybe? or more often? I'm thinking if it doens't take much, it would be easier on the pocketbook...

Wynette, this time of year it would go bad for you with #50. It is a fine meal and compacts well when damp.

Wynette, in the past I used to have 5% put in my feed ration. I know some that use it at a much higher percentage, I read in an old poultry book to keep it at max 5% so have always went with that. For a pen of young or old fowl I would just dampen some and feed it in a pan. When I showed a lot of fowl I would give each bird a Marble size ball 2-3 times a week. This would be very good for young molting and old fowl molting. I believe it is around 50% protein.

Ditto.......guess I'll just keep feeding my flock my extra eggs........but thanks Don for the info about the ACV, I can afford that!!

Thanks for the info on the fish meal.

For ACV I've always used 1 tbs per gallon but I think I might up it to 2 tbs per gallon.

Great info, guys!
